He didn't like the gown at first, but we had to take his Mickey shirt off to put it on so I can't really blame him. What he did like was riding from one floor to the next in a bed. He really liked that! And he LOVED all of the attention he started to get in the pre-surgery room. People were asking what he got for Christmas and about his Dougie he had with him, he was the center of attention, of course he loved it.
When they rolled him back he didn't shed a tear and only asked to take Dougie and Blanket. They of course obliged and he was one happy dude. They were so awesome and I am so grateful they do so well with children.
He was even a champ in his post surgery druggie state. He even sat us and drank some juice. That is the most peaceful sleep I have ever seen.
His surgery started about 9:00 and only took 20 minutes. He basically slept from then until 5:00, but when he got up he was ready to eat! The doctor said he could eat normally and ordered a normal meal for him. So a normal meal it was. He ate green beans, mashed potatoes, and half a sloppy joe. He has not eaten that well since, but he has had plenty to drink and eaten some here and there.
And if those nurses brought him one popsicle they brought him 15. I had to turn one nurse away at the door because he was falling asleep in the matter of minutes it took her to get it. It was a sleepless night in the hospital for mama and daddy, surprise surprise, and J-Man didn't fair much better with them coming in every 3 hours or so. But he slept well when he slept (it's easy to do when you're on lortab) and we were discharged by 8:45 the next morning. We were at UMC and they did great! Even some of Daddy's friends came to check on us and the ENT residents only brought 1 short coat in, but he just hung out in the corner. Since he didn't make a move toward the bed I didn't in force my no short coat rule. Matt was lucky I let him in the room when Jackson was at UMC at 4 months old and he was still a short coat. It's my little guy we are talking about here :).
Since his discharge Jackson has been resting comfortably at home with his mama and Gaga. The doctors told us 2 things; 1. Keep him calm and 2. He would feel the worst on Sunday or Monday. Well, he did feel pretty rotten on Monday, but drank well and took his meds every 4 hours so he survived. As for the calm part please scroll to the bottom and see how well that's working out for us.
I got out of the shower to find this one morning. Gaga had turned on a Mickey DVD and served Jackson breakfast in bed. Rotten does not even begin to describe. This was before she gave him a bag of M&M's in our bed and it looked like dried blood all over my pillow where he kept wiping the melting chocolate. Thanks Gaga!
Finally, this was at dinner last night. He ate about half of that bread and licked the ketchup off the chicken nuggets he had asked for for dinner. Oh well, we'll take calories where we can get them.
Note - He is NOT wearing the SAME green Mickey shirt in every picture, it is 2 different Mickey shirts we rotate between. And since Gaga is here she does a load of laundry every 15 minutes so we are good to go. When she leaves and I have to start doing laundry and unloading the dishwasher again I am going to start to complain. Not to worry though, Sheshe is rotating on duty so I have a few more days of full time help.
